Nucleic Acid Facility, University Park
Provides DNA sequencing, DNA synthesis, quantitative real-time PCR, DNA extraction and storage, and genotyping (GeneScan, SNPlex, microsatellites, AFLPs).
Services
DNA sequencing
- Regular sequencing: standard plasmid and PCR products as well as large DNA services (including genomic)
- High-throughput sequencing (96-well plate submissions). Please inquire as to the specifications for submitting plates before submitting them.
All sequencing requests must be made using the LIMS system at http://tanager.huck.psu.edu. If you bring us DNA of less than 10kilobases by 9am, your sequence should typically be ready to download from http://tanager.huck.psu.edu by 5pm (however, 96-well plates are not guaranteed to be set up the same day we receive them, so results can take slightly longer).
DNA synthesis
We can prepare oligos with lengths of 10 to 150 bases. Crude oligos are usually available within 24-48 hours (see the "Oligo" Announcements section at http://tanager.huck.psu.edu for latest estimates of turnaround times).
Quantitative Real-Time PCR
Quantification of DNA and RNA.
Genotyping
Genemapping and SNP determination.
DNA extraction and storage
Other techniques
Please contact us if you are interested in any other techniques (e.g. rolling circle protocol, genomic sequencing). We will try to provide new services if requested.
Announcements
New fees
Our fees have changed slightly. In many cases, they have dropped. Here's our current fee schedule.
We have moved
We are now located in the basement of Thomas Building (details). We will be moving again (to Chandlee Building) in Spring/Summer 2008.
Online ordering
All orders for DNA sequencing and oligo synthesis must now be placed using the online system at http://tanager.huck.psu.edu (you will need to create an account if you don't already have one). You can also use this system to sign up to use machines yourself (the Nanodrop spectrometer and two realtime PCR machines, 7300-A and 7300-B)
Turnaround times for oligo synthesis
Latest estimates (updated at least daily) are posted at http://tanager.huck.psu.edu.
